Liberatore Shepherd's "Puppy Development Program" is based on both the latest advancements in neural development, as well as tried and true methods of socializing and imprinting. Starting at an extremely young age we use neural stimulation, based on the military's "Super Dog" program, to increase our puppy's capacity for stress, as well as increasing their immune system. We then progress to the imprinting of bite training, tracking and/or scent detection, and obedience, as well as socialization to both environmental stressors and strangers. Never ignoring the pup's desire for human companionship and physical activity our puppies are also played with both as a group and individually on a multi-time a day basis. Select individuals from our breeding program are retained for further training in our development program. From that point they are taken from puppy imprint training to full fledged, basic training, in bite work, obedience, tracking, agility, article indication, vehicle and building searches, and continued general socialization to differing environments and people. Everything from wilderness adventures to city life is experienced by our pups well before the age of 12 months. Our advanced training consists
of apprehension training using Schutzhund sleeves, leg sleeves, bite suits,
hidden sleeves, and muzzles, on single and multiple attackers,
passive and hostile decoys. Our dogs are also trained to out cleanly and
instantly, as well as trained to recall off of a pursuit.
Tracking is conducted in fields, forests, through rivers, swamps, puddles,
standing and running water, over varied terrain - from snow to asphalt and
airport runways, up and down stairs, through buildings, over bridges, under
tunnels and through drainage pipes, and over, under, and through any other
natural or manmade obstacle we encounter. Obedience is conducted in real life
situations. Our
dogs are proofed on their obedience with distractions such as other dogs, farm
animals (horses, sheep, etc.) decoys in full suits as well as Schutzhund
sleeves, groups of people, moving and stationary vehicles, new and different
surroundings, and any other type of distraction we can find. Our training is
conducted at all times of day and night, at any location, in any weather
condition, from sunny and hot to torrential downpours, hurricane force winds to
sub zero temperatures and blizzard conditions. We don't expect our dogs to only
be able to work in a sterile environment so we don't train in one.
Between the ages of 12 and 36 months young adults from this program will either be retained for future breeding at our kennel or offered for sale to individuals and law enforcement departments who desire an extremely high quality, stable dog for either personal protection, search and rescue, law enforcement, service/guide dog work or sport. for me: Make sure my shepherd dog remains a working dog, for I have struggled
all my life long for that aim." |
